The policy and overall business objective of Marshalsea Hydraulics Limited is to provide products and services of the highest quality and in compliance with its customers specified requirements.

Several formal certification processes attest to the quality of Marshalsea products – see the bottom of this page. The consistent high quality of Marshalsea's finished products is achieved through the use of sophisticated 21st century equipment in the hands of Marshalsea staff trained in the operation of that equipment. Some examples follow.

Precision machining of complex pumps, valves and intensifiers to the fine tolerances required is achieved using robotic tool-changer lathes. These including the sophisticated Puma MX2500ST and the Bridgeport Torq-cut machining centre.

Incoming batches of material are checked using the Nitron XRF portable alloy analyser – this amazing instrument provides a detailed analysis of the chemical composition of alloys including the high quality stainless steels used in our products. As shown here, finished products are also tested to provide Positive Material Identification (PMI), a key component of safety management in the petrochemical industries.

Another robotic tool is used to accurately measure a multitude of the dimensions of our finished products – this is the DEA Hexagon Metrology Coordinate Measuring System equipped with a set of Renshaw probes. The machine selects the correct probe for each measurement it takes. The full set of internal and external measurements is computer compared to the specified dimensions with any measurement out of tolerance highlighted and the product rejected.

Finished products are finally thoroughly cleaned using the Kerry Microsolve ultrasonic cleaning system. Many of our products have numerous internal galleries, screw threads and internal holes that could trap small manufacturing particulates. But with the use of ultrasonics in the cleaning process agitation can be effected deep inside these complex components and they are thoroughly cleaned.

This critical high-quality level of cleaning is essential for products being used in the hazardous environments of the oil and gas industry.

Formal certification

All Marshalsea Hydraulics products conform to Directive 2014/34/EU relating to equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and are ATEX (ATmosphere EXplosible) certified.

In addition, Marshalsea Hydraulics valves conform to the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU. All valves are CE marked and supplied with a test certificate plus a declaration of conformity.

Internationally recognised Quality Management System Certification became more demanding with the introduction of ISO 9001 which replaced older ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003 standards. To conform, there is a need to be completely customer focused with a knowledge of customers' requirements and with proactive measurement of customer satisfaction. The market in which customers operate has to be understood so that

consideration is given to unspecified needs. Formal documented procedures covering the following topics are included in the assessment:

  –  control of documents
  –  control of quality records
  –  internal audit
  –  control of nonconforming product
  –  corrective action
  –  preventive action.

Marshalsea Hydraulics has undergone assessment by SGS Société Générale de Surveillance SA. That assessment led to certification that the system in operation at Marshalsea Hydraulics conforms to the requirements of ISO 9001 for the design, development, manufacture and servicing of hydraulic pumps, relief valves and intensifiers.
